Uros, Amantani, and Taquile Tour: 2 Days and 1 Night Adventure
A Journey to the Heart of Titicaca
Have you ever wished to disconnect from the modern world and immerse yourself in a lifestyle that has remained almost unchanged for centuries? Taking the Uros, Amantani, and Taquile Tour is much more than a simple sightseeing excursion; it is a golden opportunity to live alongside the guardians of the world’s highest navigable lake. Lake Titicaca, the cradle of the Inca civilization, offers landscapes that seem taken from a dream, where the intense blue of the water merges with the Altiplano horizon. On this two-day trip, you won’t just visit islands; you will become part of a community that will welcome you with open arms.
Hospitality and Tradition in the Sacred Islands
This journey is designed for those seeking a genuine connection. During the Uros, Amantani, and Taquile Tour, the experience of staying overnight on Amantani Island allows you to understand the Andean worldview from within. You won’t stay in a conventional hotel, but in a traditional family home, sharing stories and fresh food with the local inhabitants. It is a deep cultural immersion that combines the amazing engineering of the Uros floating islands with the textile mastery of Taquile, all within a framework of authentic hospitality that will transform your worldview.

Day 01: Puno – Floating Uros Islands – Amantani Experience
Our journey on the Uros Amantani Taquile Tour begins at 7:45 am with a pickup from your hotel in Puno. We will transfer to the port to board our private boat. The first stop is the iconic Uros Islands. For approximately one hour, we will explore these totora reed structures, participate in demonstrations on their construction, and understand how this ethnic group has survived on the lake for millennia.
We will continue sailing towards Amantani Island, arriving around 1:15 pm. Upon disembarking, you will be welcomed by local families. After being assigned to a family home, you will enjoy a nutritious lunch prepared with local organic products. In the afternoon, we will take a guided hike to the pre-Inca temples of Pachatata and Pachamama, located at the highest points of the island. From there, you will witness an unforgettable sunset over Lake Titicaca. The day ends with a typical dinner and a folk celebration (peña) organized by the community in honor of the visitors.
Day 02: Textile Tradition in Taquile – Return to Puno
The second day of the Uros Amantani Taquile Tour begins with a homemade breakfast alongside your host family. Then, we will set sail toward the neighboring Taquile Island. This island is world-famous for its social organization based on reciprocity or "AYNI" and for its excellence in textile art, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
In Taquile, you will walk along cobblestone paths while observing the men knitting with unmatched skill. You will learn about the importance of the "Chumpi" calendar belt and the social codes that govern their attire. We will enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant, where fresh trout is the highlight (with vegetarian options available). Finally, we will begin the descent to the port to sail back to Puno, arriving approximately between 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm for the final transfer to your hotel.

- Adaptable Clothing: Bring warm clothes for the cold nights and light layers for the day, as the solar radiation is strong but the wind is cool.
- Sun Protection: It is essential to use high-protection sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses throughout the Uros Amantani Taquile Tour.
- Small Backpack: We recommend taking only what is necessary for the night on the island in a carry-on backpack, leaving your heavy luggage at your hotel in Puno.
- Cash and Snacks: Bring soles in cash to buy local handicrafts or additional snacks, as there are no ATMs on the islands.
- Hydration: Drink plenty of water and consume coca tea to mitigate the effects of the altitude (3,812 m).
It is an experiential stay in local family homes. The rooms are simple, clean, and have enough blankets for the cold. The bathroom is usually basic and shared. It is an immersion experience, not luxury.
The difficulty is moderate. There are uphill hikes to the temples in Amantani and along the trails of Taquile. Due to the altitude, it is recommended to walk slowly and be well-acclimated.
The typical lunch usually consists of a quinoa soup followed by fried trout with rice and potatoes. There are also delicious vegetarian options, such as vegetable omelets. The food is homemade and prepared with local ingredients.
In Amantani, electricity is limited (often solar panels) and there is no public Wi-Fi. It is the perfect place for a total disconnect. Make sure to bring your devices fully charged or carry an external power bank.
The 2-day Uros Amantani Taquile Tour allows for a real connection with the culture. The 1-day tour is very rushed; in contrast, staying overnight allows you to see the sunset, participate in the local festival, and share genuine moments with the families.
