An Adventure in the Depths of Colca

Going on the Colca Canyon Trek is much more than a simple hike; it is an immersion into one of the deepest abysses on the planet. Located in the Arequipa region, this trail allows you to descend more than a thousand meters from the mountain peaks to the Colca River bed. During the Colca Canyon Trek, travelers not only test their physical endurance but also witness breathtaking volcanic landscapes and a unique biodiversity found only in the Peruvian Andes.

An Unforgettable Challenge in the Heart of the Andes

This journey is ideal for those looking to escape conventional tourism and experience nature in its purest state. The Colca Canyon Trek will take you through traditional villages that seem frozen in time, where local culture remains alive. As you descend the canyon walls, you will feel the change in climate and observe how the vegetation becomes more lush as you approach the river. It is a challenge that combines adrenaline, spiritual peace, and the satisfaction of conquering one of the most demanding terrains in southern Peru.

Day 1: Arequipa – Cruz del Condor – Descent to the Oasis

The Colca Canyon Trekking adventure begins very early. We will pick you up from your hotel in Arequipa between 3:00 and 3:30 am to travel towards the town of Chivay. Here, we will make a technical stop to enjoy an energizing breakfast that will prepare us for the physical exertion.
Our first major visit is the Cruz del Condor Viewpoint. At this iconic spot, you will be able to observe the majestic flight of the condors over the canyon's abyss. It is the perfect preamble before officially starting the Colca Canyon Trekking.
From Pampa San Miguel (3,200 m), we will begin the descent for approximately 3 hours until we reach the suspension bridge over the Colca River. We will have lunch in the village of San Juan de Chuccho, surrounded by absolute peace. In the afternoon, we will continue the hike through the villages of Cosñirhua and Malata, learning about local life and mountain agriculture. The day ends with the arrival at the Sangalle Oasis, where you can relax in the natural pools before dinner and an overnight stay in rustic bungalows.

Day 2: Ascent to Cabanaconde – Return to Arequipa

The second day of the Colca Canyon Trek is the most demanding. We will wake up at 4:30 am to begin the 3.5-hour ascent toward Cabanaconde. Overcoming this 1,000-meter elevation gain is a personal achievement rewarded with incredible panoramic views of the sunrise over the canyon.
After a restorative breakfast in Cabanaconde, we will board our transport to visit traditional viewpoints such as Wayrapunko. We will also pass through the village of Maca and have optional time to relax in the Chacapi thermal baths.
On the way back to Arequipa, we will make strategic stops at Patapampa (Volcanoes Viewpoint at 4,910 m) and the Pampa Cañahuas Reserve to observe vicuñas in their natural habitat. We will arrive in the city at approximately 5:30 pm, concluding this epic Colca Canyon Trek experience.
